During already 2 weekends
we have enjoyed working in the garden.
Cleaning up
winter was really needed. It’s spring you know.
Some old dry brown sticks from last year told us about better times with lots of
flowers and green. And now it is full of colours again, red, blue, yellow, ... in all shades. No need for old dead sticks any more.
Some fighting against herbs such as nettles was also part of the cleaning upp. They would love to take over the garden. But there is already a big nice spot in the back of the garden where they can stay for nettles soup and even better : nettle bread. Carin just tried it and it turned out to be very tasteful. Sure she will do it again.

And as a bonus some beautifull butterflies can lay their eggs on it.
Something
even more fun is our vegetable garden. We started already a little piece somewhat
earlier. Carrots, as Cecilia loves carrots. But now we expanded it with chard
(mangold – snijbiet of warmoes), salad and beans. Especially these beans which
grow high on sticks are my favourites. It’s kind of vertical gardening. And
what was fun: the wind was blowing in the bamboo pipes and making funny whistling
noises.

Guess
what: after a few days the seeds are coming up already.
carrots |
some kind of special Japanese salad |
Bad luck we
had with our first day of seeding and planting. We planted 2 zucchinis. One of
them was a really nice and big plant. In the morning both of them where hanging
on the ground: frozen. Now I planted a new one as it is much warmer with
temperatures up to 25°C.
In the back of the garden we have made our potato field. To make it fun and good looking we have bordered it with tagetes plants at the southern side and we seeded sunflowers at the northern side.
A peacock (påfågel
– dagpauwoog) has already made this his territory.
