The chair

My grandfather used to sleep at noon. We had to be silent at that time. For that little rest and for watching television he was sitting in his sofa. A black leather comfortable seat with a some kind of furniture before it to lay your feet on. Perfect for calming down and be very very cosy cocooning rolled in a ball … at least for children.
But we were not allowed to sit in it. It was the chair of my grandfather.

Quite some time ago my grandfather softly and gently died, old and worn out. He became 96. His belongings were divided between the heirs. The sofa disappeared to an aunt and went out of my memory.
Not so long ago my sister met a cousin on one of her art projects.  I don’t get what he is really doing for work but as I understood he is linked to the art centre "Wiels" in Brussel (http://www.wiels.org/en/). He has set up an art gallery too (http://www.maniera.be/about and http://www.domusweb.it/en/design/2014/05/14/the_standard_andthestone.html).
Talking about him my sister and I found a picture of this specific chair in the paper. Here it is http://www.standaard.be/cnt/dmf20141014_01321017. It has the main place in his loft.

When I first came in at Carin’s parents place there it was again : the chair for the master of the house. This chair was even more important. It was a family piece made by the parents of my mother in law. Nice wood carving and black fabric with simple colourful figures on it. It was called Flemish weaving. And that was hitting me as my mother was a skilled weaver. I should surely have liked her opinion about this fabric. What is the origin of the name "Flemish weaving". Was this made only in Sweden? Or was the technic indeed coming from Flanders and imported in Sweden? ...

As good parents do they supply you with some things you need. Also the parents of Carin are no exception on this. They gave us some cute little chairs after they cleaned them with sandpaper, varnished them and added some new fabric on it. I'm really happy with this chairs. It doesn't look but they sit really good. So I'm very glad about this nice present.

Yesterday my father in law was here. And he brought … the chair for the master of the house. It was made to stand in a farm in the 50’s and now it’s again in a farm. I was astonished he brought it and I am very honored with this family piece.

I guess it will move around till we find its place. The place for the most important chair. The chair for the master of the house.
